Description:
Royal Dancer, or Natarajasana, is one of the poses of Shiva, who in Hindu Mythology is the source of yoga; the god of mystical stillness, death, and destruction; and Lord of the Dance. He is known for creating hundreds of dances, from gentle ones to fierce and destructive ones that threaten the world.
Shiva is an intense character and so is this pose. Don't worry if you don't get the full pose: BKS Iyengar ranked this pose as one of the most difficult of all poses (a 58 on his 60-point scale!). Allison will guide you through the most common approaches to working on the combination of strength, flexibility, and balance this pose requires. Royal Dancer helps us build focus and grace, strength and tone in the legs, openness in the hips, chest, and shoulders, and strength in the back body. It's a glorious pose and Allison will help you have fun with it. Enjoy!
